President’s Report
A pre-season trout stocking
of brook trout will take place on April 9th. Meet at Steinkirchner's
at 6:30 pm. A total of 350 fish will be stocked. Cost for the
fish was a total of $402.50 or $1.15 per fish. This is the first
time WCWA is doing a pre-season stocking.
Thurman is upset with PNC
Bank, where WCWA's checking account is located. He would like to
move the checking account to another bank. The board decided to table
the discussion until treasurer Blough can be consulted.
Thurman reported to KCRBA
about Growing Greener II not coming through with the money for WCWA's County
approved project. The project does not provide a capital improvement,
thus PA DEP says it does not qualify. It was only for characterizing
the main stem of Wells Creek especially during periods when mine drainage
is bypassing the treatment systems.
John contacted Brad Zearfoss,
Somerset County Planner, in regards to not receiving any rejection letter
from PA DEP. His office has not been notified of any movement either.
He offered his assistance to WCWA.
Thurman will serve as an
advisor to Lambert Run watershed. He attended a meeting regarding
this matter.
Secretary’s Report
Secretary’s Report from the
prior meeting was previously distributed to all members of the BOD.
Jeff made motion to accept and Dave seconded the motion. Motion passed.
Treasurer’s Report
The amount in the checking
account as of February 29, 2008 was $7,749.37. Ron made motion to
accept the treasurer’s report and Jeff seconded the motion. Motion
passed.
As a note for future reference,
Roger requested that all bills be paid through the treasurer with a check
to create paper trail.
Thurman’s expenses for the
month were $69.28. Expenses were mainly for mileage and telephone.
Ron made motion to accept Thurman’s expenses. Buster seconded the
motion and it passed.
Report on Treatment Systems
Ron reported seeing signs
of muskrats at the Onstead treatment system. The flow at Onstead
on March 13, 2008 was 350 gpm.
Water was flowing through
the emergency spillway and in the by-pass at Adam #7. The 24 inch
by-pass was flowing at Adams #6.
John also collected the monthly
samples from Costea and Adams #6-24 inch by-pass.
Quarterly samples will be
collected this month from the treatment systems.
A discussion regarding John's
observations at Costea's took place. Additional analysis is needed
before any conclusions can be made.
John reported evidence of
vehicle traffic at Adams #7. Discussion was held on erecting the
gate for security. John suggested contacting the Moore brothers to
see if they are accessing their property from the Adams #7 treatment system.
Old Business
Thurman wrote a letter to
editor at the Daily American regarding the success of our grilled chicken
fund raiser and publicly thanked are many partners.
Board members talked about
chicken bagging and how can we improve the container. The aluminum
foil lined paper bags fall apart while the hot chicken is in them.
Suggested solutions were the use of styrofoam boxes.
Talked about a home, garden,
and sport symposium for a fund raiser.
New Business
Ron reported having a 8 burner
stove/oven and stainless steel sink. He is wondering if anyone is
interesting in purchasing them. Dan Petrocelli said he would look
at the sink. It is located at Aust's cabinet shop.
Next Meeting: April 10, 2008,
Regular Monthly Meeting at 7:30 pm at the Clubhouse (Fitzies)
Dave made motion to adjourn.
Jeff seconded and the motion
was passed.
